'ASCENSION' UPDATE

UPDATE to my 3/16/12 post mentioning an upcoming film pairing the writer, Warren Ellis with the actor, Idris Elba: After speaking to Warren Ellis personally (via Twitter) some time back, I have been assured that speculations of the 'Ascension' film are purely the product of internet gossip. Sorry folks, as much as I can only hope he was sitting in a pub somewhere, one too many in, and just sent that tweet as a head fake. I'm more inclined to believe he was telling the truth. Regardless, it's still not a bad premise so somebody, somewhere make it happen.

Perhaps More Sci-fi for Idris Elba

Our friends at sciencefiction.com have reported that recent Emmy Award winner Idris Elba (in case you've been under a rock... The Wire, Luther, Loser, Thor, Etc) is in talks with producers to star in an upcoming Sci-fi mini-series called 'Ascension'. The series will address the question, How did the Egyptian amass the great wealth of knowledge they accumulated that made feats like pyramids possible? If Elba lands the role he will be playing two parts, an astronomer in the near future and the famous Imhotep (chancellor to the Pharaoh Djoser and high priest of the sun god Ra at Heliopolis and father of modern medicine) in the 3000 B.C. 'Ascension' is a joint venture between comic writer Warren Ellis (Planetary, Authority, etc) and British producer Vivek J. Tiwary.

I'm looking forward to this mini-series , but I'm just hoping they don't go the corn-ball route of giving credit for Egyptian accomplishments to aliens. I was looking the forward to Stargate until that crap. The never give credit for Da Vinci's knowledge or Socrates incite to aliens. It's an insult to incinerate it of the Egyptians as well as the Dogons. I digress,  Ellis is an excellent writer and I'm quite sure he won't go that route.Click here to read the article
